In the early 90s, there was a company acquired by a US company 130 miles away from our university, and they offered a summer job/internship. No salary, not even range of it, but "it will be competitve". But I have to move here and rent a flat for that three months. "It will be competitive". In my mind there's not a single job on the planet that will keep me from spending time with my new child, if is boss was a real man he would 100% understand. But he doesn't which is that saddest thing. I wouldn't go in and I'd say I'm gonna spend at least two weeks with my child full time too get comfortable with the new situation. Bottomline is my family comes first before anything and my boss is gonna hav'ta suck it up.

WFH may be better paid by salary, or salary-equivalent, unless it is provable that the responsibilities given require more than a 35-40 hour week. Salary was always about outcome of work (though you had to put on appearances by being in the office for x hours. Didn't stop long lunches provided work got done, water-cooler "meetings", etc).

Perhaps I can now bill for all the time I spent prepping my resume and cover letter and getting refrences, and time spent researching the company and making calls to determine if they would be a good place to work for - for every time a company placed a fake ad for a job when they already had someone in-house lined up. I had to have applied for a hundred jobs that were only posted to fulfill some legal requirement.

I look at all employment as at will. If the employer can show you the door with no notice, then you can leave with no notice.

My parents were kind enough to let me move back in with them for a while in between real jobs. In the meantime, I worked a crappy part time job. The worst "We need you to come in" story was on my day off, I went out for a walk in the park. Work calls my cell, and it goes straight to VM because it's turned off. Now when I started there, I made the mistake of giving them my cell and also my parent's landline because I got poor cell reception there. However, after a recent incident, I had told them never to call my parents phone again, and had whited it out of all the listings they had. My guess is that they looked it up in the phone book or had it somewhere else, and they sent my parents out into town driving around looking for me. I'm enjoying a day at the park and my parents come up to me, telling me work needs me in right away. I told them tough sh*t. The next day when I went into work, I let them have it and told them if they ever called my folks again, they'd never see me again. They never did call my parents. I was so glad the day I left that trash heap.

Someone called ME once after reading my reseme to ask if I had experience with something I did not put on my resume, when I said no, she yelled at me for wasting her time.😂

If he was doing business in the USA, he wouldn't have to pay her during maternity leave. 🤦

First i don t answer the phone ..why it s my time and it. s private..i manage the way ..i want mine. Am not on vacation but maternity leave…so legal.and if you don t answer the call…no worries Co. will call someone else..and if you are that person who is so needed..well either every thing..is fine..or they fire you..law suit.. Or another co. Will snatch you..probably pay you more 😅etc

Corporate made a minor error on our semester contracts, something about time or scheduling or some such, then proceeded to handle it so badly that the CEO had to step in. He directed HR to assure us all that we would get our pay on time (hr had threatened to hold paychecks if we didn’t do what she wanted). Several of us sent them downloaded copies of state and federal labor law regarding withholding of earned pay.

I expected her to advise to listen to Podcasts instead of Rap.

It seems like "annual leave" is what everyone lives for! Maybe try cancelling something easier like death or taxes! 😂

This would be absolutely not happening in my country as we have union agreements and laws against this,the company would have had to pay so much put that it would be easier to just hire a temp or pospone work ect...

I'd be like, "Suck it up. That sounds like a YOU problem". Why would I "pay" for someone's else mistake. Even if I bent over backwards to make it back, what do I get besides a headache???

I've never understood why people might be afraid to tell their boss they are quitting. What are they actually afraid of, being yelled at? Attempts to make you feel bad? Who cares? Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm a jerk but if I'm quitting, especially if it's due to a manager that's a butthole then I'm not that worried about what they have to say about it. Unless they might physically attack you then why be afraid?

Yea, I remember when i had my baby, I took a day off because I'm a man, not a woman, so I didn't take maternity leave I just helped out when I came home from work 😂 Maternity leave for men 😂😂😂 awesome
